This bespoke home in Cupar was always going to be special because it would provide a teenager with disabilities as much independence as possible while ensuring the space and environment for the whole family to live life to the full.
The Finlayson family summed up their vision very succinctly for what the house could achieve for the family; stimulate, empower and bring together.
The design team at Richmond Homes worked closely with the Finlayson’s to provide their perfect home. The house would occupy a 560 square metre double plot in an elevated position within a Richmond Homes development. Externally, the house would be in keeping with the other luxury properties but with a bespoke floor plan and some additional design features such as wooden cladding and Juliette balconies.
On the ground floor, the flow of the house was built around Ryan’s needs, including reinforced beams where required, without compromising the home’s contemporary design. Everything was considered, tweaked and fine-tuned to create a house that worked for both Ryan and his parents. Ryan’s bedroom suite incorporated a luxury bathroom and dedicated sensory room. Across the hallway a spa area included swimming pool, shower room and steam room. Bi-fold doors led to the terrace within the enclosed rear garden and floor-to-ceiling windows afforded views to the garden from the day room.
The left wing of the ground floor comprised a breakfasting kitchen, dining room and lounge, all fully accessible. The spacious designer German Hacker kitchen in dark oak incorporated a large dining area which was the centre of the home. The kitchen had top quality fittings and finishes; polished Shivakashi granite work surfaces and top of the range Miele appliances including induction hob, coffee machine, steam oven, warming drawer, wine fridge and ice machine.
Friends and family gather regularly at the Finalyson’s so formal dining and lounge rooms were spacious with many luxury features and entirely accessible. The lounge, with a feature living flame fire and ornate coffered ceiling, led to a terrace and the garden room with a bar and Cinema Style TV.
The luxury design, fittings and finishes continued to the upper level of the house via an oak staircase. On the second floor, the large galleried hallway with picture frame windows allowed light to flood into the home providing access to a games room and the three spacious ensuite bedroom suites. These suites had many additional features including a sauna in the master bedroom and a balcony from the guest bedroom.
